James Livingston Lowe

Elkin Mr. James "Jim" Livingston Lowe, age 95 of North Bridge Street, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2008 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mr. Lowe was born January 11, 1913 in Wilkes County to Lawrence and Rebecca Smith Lowe. Mr. Lowe graduated from Mountain Park High School where he was a three letter athlete. For more than fifty years he was a member of Elkin Valley Baptist Church. Mr. Lowe retired from Chatham Manufacturing Company. Mr. Lowe enjoyed keeping abreast of local, national and international happenings. He was a naturalist and an initiator of Stone Mountain becoming a state park. Mr. Lowe was well known for his custom made windmills. The windmill by the Elkin Municipal Swimming Pool is one of the smaller windmills made by Mr. Lowe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lorene Shores Lowe and sister, Alma Lowe Norman of Thurmond. Survivors include: a son and daughter-in-law, J.L. & Jane Lowe of Elkin; a daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Bobby Bunker of Clinton; a daughter, Phyllis Lowe of Elkin; sisters, Hazel Shores of Elkin, Stella Shores of Roseville, California, Juanita Lowe of Greensboro; four grandchildren, Bobby Bunker, Jr. and wife Betsy of Fountain Inn, SC, James Lowe of Raleigh; Becky McKee and husband Chris of Garner, Laura Degnon and husband Kevin of Greensboro; and four great grandchildren, Alex and Rachel Bunker of Fountain Inn, SC, Douglas McKee of Garner, NC, and Elizabeth Degnon of Greensboro; special friends of Mr. Lowe include Lillian and Ted Ross; Louise and Kermit Wood. Funeral services will be held at Elkin Valley Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2008 by Rev. Johnny Blevins. Burial will precede the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. March 8, 2008 at Elkin Valley Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Elkin Valley Christian Life Center following the service. The family requests no flowers. Memorials may be made to Elkin Valley Baptist Church, 118 North Elkin Drive, Elkin, NC 28621. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation for the kind and loving care of the 3rd floor nurses, CNAs and staff at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital and the doctors of Yadkin Valley Adult Medicine.
