Elkin, Rev. Cabell Charles Cox, age 72, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 22, 2010 in Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. Rev. Cox was born October 29, 1937 in Wilkes County to Rev. Guy R. Cox and Annie Bateman Cox. He attended Piedmont Bible College and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Rev. Cox pastored many churches including Bible Baptist Church, Bessie's Chapel Baptist Church, Center Baptist Church, Bear Creek Baptist Church, and Mining Ridge Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers infant Billy Cox, Warren Cox, and R.A. Cox. Survivors include his loving wife Jean Cox of the home, daughters Cynthia Alford and husband Dan of Taylorsville, Cheryl Poindexter and husband Steve of Jonesville, Millie Beard and husband Jason of Jonesville, sisters Blanche Brown of Elkin, Laverne Cox of Thurmond, Joyce Billings and husband Ira of Thurmond, Sylvia Key and husband Danny of Elkin, and brother Tim Cox and wife Debbie of Lexington; grandchildren Amber Bryant, Misty Nixon, Shane Stanley, Isaac Beard, Katelyn Beard, Tommy Poindexter, Derick Poindexter, Morgan Poindexter, David Alford, Chris Alford, and Caleb Alford; great grandchildren Nathaniel Stanley, Ashton Poindexter, Hope Poindexter, Alex Poindexter, Jeffrey Roten, and Jordan Roten, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Shane Stanley, Rev. Danny Dodds, Rev. Randy Johnson, Rev. Dean Chandler and Greg Journey officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Baptist Church cemetery in State Road. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening form 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
