Howard Claude Hinson

Howard C. Hinson, 82 of Elkin, passed away Monday, May 24, 2010 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Hinson was born May 31, 1927 in Surry County to Claude and Laura Smoot Hinson. He served in the United States Army during WWII. Mr. Hinson was the owner and operator of Elkin Amoco Super Service in Elkin for many years. After moving to Lake Junaluska, he owned and operated Hinson's Smokehouse and Exxon there. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hinson was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis Lackey Hinson; a stepmother Lola Reynolds Hinson; and three brothers, Carl Hinson, Boyce Hinson, and Harvey Hinson. He is survived by two daughters, Wendy Hinson & husband Ted Collins of King and Pat McKim & husband Dana of Lexington; two sisters, Pearl Luffman of State Road and Vetreal Masten & husband Earl of Elkin; two grandchildren, Aaron McKim and Ashley McKim; nieces and nephews for whom he filled a daddy's role, Linda Ross of King, Dicky Luffman, Bill Luffman, and Anna Woodruff, all of State Road; sisters-in-law Mary, Lorene, and Wilma Hinson, all of Elkin; seven nieces and four nephews; and two grand dogs, Mattie and Casey. A memorial service will be conducted Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at 6:00 pm at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Dr. Bill Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
