Josephine Handy Bowers

Hays Mrs. Josephine Handy Bowers, age 75, of Longbottom Road, passed away Thursday January 17, 2008 at her residence. Mrs. Bowers was born February 13, 1932 in Wilkes County to Morgan and Della Rhodes Handy. Mrs. Bowers retired from American Drew and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Olen Bowers. Survivors include; Three sons, Lester Bowers, Wesley Bowers, John Bowers. A daughter, Virginia Bowers Baity all of Hays. A brother, Albert Handy of Hays. Two sisters, Avaline Pruitt of Hays, Ester Handy of Winston Salem. Six Grandchildren, Olen Bowers, Carrie Billings, Phyllis Baity, Travis Baity, Amy Bowers, J.W. Bowers. Five Great Grandchildren, Shianne Bowers, Thomas Bowers, Jared Bowers, Annie Billings, Lynnzey Billings. Funeral services will be held Sunday January 20, 2008 at 2pm at Piney Grove Baptist Church by Rev. Jackie Richardson and Rev. Bobby Trott. Burial will follow in the family cemetery. Mrs. Bowers will lie instate thirty minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6-8 pm at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. Flowers will be accepter or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice.
