Mrs. Ruby Pendry Mathis, age 78, of Old Highway 60, Ronda, passed away Thursday, October 12, 2006 at Elkin Healthcare. Mrs. Mathis was born August 24, 1928 in Yadkin County to James Montgomery & Martha Lovenia Williard Pendry. Mrs. Mathis retired from Golden Needles and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church for over 50 years. She was also a member of the Home Demonstration Club, the Ronda Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and Clingman Community Center. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Pendry and Clint Pendry; three sisters, Minnie Matthews, Libby Reece and Dessie Sainz. Survivors include: her husband of 59 years, Billy M. Mathis of the home; two daughters, Judy Whitaker and husband Dairel of Elkin, Kay Key and husband Terry of Ronda; four brothers, Joe Pendry, Howard Pendry, Ernest Pendry all of Boonville, Benny Pendry of East Bend; two sisters, Nell Caudle of Boonville, Fern Hunter of Pfafftown; two grandchildren, Teddy Whitaker of Elkin, Lisa Shoemaker of Yadkinville, two step grandchildren, Michael Shoemaker and Nikita Shoemaker; three great grandchildren, Cody Whitaker, Kaila Shoemaker, Caleb Shoemaker. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 14, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church by Rev. Dennis Murphy. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Mathis will lie instate 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin.
