Elkin On Tuesday the 24th of April, Alta Marie Owens McCann, was reunited with her beloved husband, Robert Walter McCann. Our hearts are saddened by her passing but our souls rejoice for her freedom. No more sorrow, no more pain, no more suffering. She is with Robert and their heavenly father. Alta was born January 6, 1929 in Yadkin County to Jim & Mallie Robbins Owens. She was a member of Jonesville Pentecostal Holiness Church where she was a member of the choir and past president of the Women's Circle. She retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. Survivors include: two sons, Robert Walter "Bobby" McCann, Jr. of Clemmons, Kendall Tucker McCann of Millers Creek; a daughter, Sharon Raye McCann of Thurmond; three brothers, Luther Owens and wife Ruth of Forbush, Harold Owens and wife Ann of Tobaccoville, Roger Owens and wife Millie of Yadkinville; three sisters, Geraldine Plouman of Courtney, NC, Peggy Ailene Bruce of Forbush, Foy Owens of Mount Airy; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 27, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Jonesville Pentecostal Holiness Church by Rev. Tim Lane and Rev. Tim Nelson. Burial will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens. Mrs. McCann will lie instate 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Western Carolina Chapter, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215.
