Elkin Mrs. Ida Mae Bowers Carter, age 85, of Turner Court, passed away, Thursday, June 19, 2008 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Carter was born July 13, 1922 in Watauga County to Robert & Nora Bowers. Mrs. Carter was a homemaker and attended Elkin Valley Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dewitt W. Carter; a daughter, Judy Carter Dixon; two brothers, Glen Bowers and Gene Bowers; a sister Bonnie Bowers. Survivors include: a daughter, Janet Ratledge of Mocksville; a brother, Sanford Bowers of Lenoir; a sister, Louise Dudley of Jonesville; five grandchildren, Mike Wood of Statesville, Bobby Wood of Mocksville, Mickey Dixon of Clemmons, Chuck Dixon of Mt. Airy, Kristy Dixon Royall of Wilkesboro; eight great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild. Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 22, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Danny Dodds. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
