Rose A. Townsend 80 longtime St. Maries resident, died March 21, 2011 at Las Vegas, NV following an extended illness. She was born July 4, 1930 to Hollis and Bertha Overturf Burnett at Wenatchee, WA. She spent her early childhood on Badger Mountain near Wenatchee, before moving with her family to Colville, WA. She graduated early from Colville High School with the class of 1946. Shortly after her graduation, she married Milton Mahoney at Colville. She lived in Colville and raised her family on the family farm. She belonged to the White Lake Grange and the White Lake Home Economics Club there. Mr. Mahoney died in 1964. She married Al Townsend on May 1, 1966 at Okanogan, WA. Her husband was then transferred to St. Maries, ID and the family came with him. She was a charter member of the St. Joe River Boat Club, and a charter member of the Paul Bunyan Days Committee. She was a Past President of the St. Maries J-Cyettes and a member of the St. Maries Eagles Auxiliary. She and her husband retired early so they could travel. They traveled to all 50 of the States. They wintered in Lake Havasu City, AZ. When able, she enjoyed boating, gardening and camping with the family.. She is survived by her husband at the family home in St. Maries. Her son Kelly Mahoney of St. Maries and son and daughter-in-law Les and Jane Mahoney of Herman, MN. Also surviving are daughters and sons-in-law Dot and Jim Scott of St. Maries and Janet and Rick Voss of Harrison, ID. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Rita Burnett of Colville, WA, Mary and her husband Keith Graybill of Fayetteville, N.C. Brother-in-law Stan and wife Marie Townsend of Salem, OR and Brother-in-law Bruce Townsend and companion Paula Chambers of Omak, WA. and brother Morris Burnett, 13 grandchildren, 18 Great grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Vivian Mahoney and brothers Vernon, Jack and Bill Burnett Funeral Services will be Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at 4:00 pm. At the Community Presbyterian Church with Rev. Gary Foster officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
