Jonesville Mrs. Bessie Bernece Billings Murray, age 87, of Oakland Blvd., passed away Sunday, August 1, 2004 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Murray was born August 31, 1916 in Wilkes County to Walter & Mattie Simmons Spicer. Mrs. Murray was a homemaker and a member of East Elkin Full Gospel Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Harley Billings and a brother, Isaac Spicer. Survivors include: four sons, Ray Billings of Sparta, Clay Billings of Elkin, Clyde Billings of Traphill and Claude Billings of W. Jefferson; two daughters, Shirley Ingool of Traphill, Mae Crouse of Elkin; a brother, John Paul Spicer of Roaring River; sixteen grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Jerry Childress. Burial will follow at Knobbs Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin is serving the Murray family.
