Elkin Mrs. Betty Dobbins, age 79, of S. Old Quarry Road, passed away Sunday, May 29, 2005 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mrs. Dobbins was born May 28, 1926 in Surry County to A.F. & Mary Belle Hudson Yarborough. Mrs. Dobbins was a very active member of Elkin Valley Baptist Church where she was active in all of the church activities including a Sunday school teacher and a choir member. She loved and was very proud of its recent growth. She was a member of the Friendship Quilting Club and Community Chorus. Mrs. Dobbins retired after 35 years as Vice President from BB&T. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Glenn Dobbins and brothers, Edward Yarborough and Phillip Yarborough. Survivors include: a son, Steve Dobbins and wife Sue of Hickory; a daughter, Pam Keesee of Elkin; a brother, Mickey Yarborough of Elkin; three grandchildren, Matt Keesee, Allison Dobbins and Andrew Dobbins and wife Callie; one great grandchild, Jackson Dobbins. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 1, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Elkin Valley Baptist Church by Rev. Johnny Blevins. Burial will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Betty Dobbins Sunday School Class Steeple Fund, c/o Elkin Valley Baptist Church, 118 N. Elkin Drive, Elkin, NC 28621.
