Ronda Mrs. Mae Gambill Byrd, age 83, of Little Elkin Church Road, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2006 at Wilkes Senior Village. Mrs. Byrd was born March 14, 1923 in Wilkes County to George Dewey & Walsie Waddell Gambill. Mrs. Byrd was a homemaker and was a member of Little Elkin Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Byrd, a sister, Dona Reece; a brother, Sherrill Gambill. Survivors include: a son, James W. Byrd, Jr. and wife, Kathy of Ronda; a daughter, Delaine Burchette and husband Reggie of Ronda; three brothers George Gambill and wife Sally, Worth Gambill, Clay Gambill and wife Jo all of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Marie Eisenhower and husband Junior of Winston-Salem, Ruth Gambill of Clemmons; six grandchildren, Kimberly Byrd Foster, Sandy Shepherd, Tammy Shepherd, Bobby Byrd, Brian Burchette, Beth Blevins; six great grandchildren, Tiffany Vestal, Brittany Holbrook, Daniel Holbrook, Trey Blevins, Tristen Blevins and Nathianel Burchette. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 21, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Little Elkin Baptist Church by Rev. Gwyn Anderson and Rev. Fred Holbrook. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Byrd will lie instate 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Little Elkin Baptist Church Building Fund, Ronda, NC 28670.
