State Road Mrs. Mae Creed Clifton, our loving mother, age 87, of Logun Road while sleeping in her rocking chair, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at her residence. Mrs. Clifton was born October 4, 1921 in Surry County to Johnny & Hazel Davis Creed. Mrs. Clifton was a homemaker and enjoyed her family and loved flat foot dancing. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marlin Clifton; three brothers, Bernie Creed, Ralph Creed and Ernest Creed; two sisters, Francis Creed and Lizzie Carpenter. Survivors include three sons, Donald Clifton and wife Judy of Mount Airy, Johnny Clifton and wife Sharron, Bernie Clifton all of State Road; a daughter, Ruth Clifton Vestal and husband Mickey of State Road; a brother, Wayne Creed of Mount Airy; a sister, Trudy Creed of Mount Airy; nine grandchildren, Derrick Clifton, Chad Clifton, Emily Niston, Shannon Lawrence, Jayme Davidson, Alevia Clifton, Kimberly Lawson, Jason Midkiff and Jason Smoot; seven great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 8, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Fonda Younger and Elder Keith Wood. Burial will follow at Fisher River Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin.
