Traphill Mrs. Brenda Kay Cook Lyon, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, age 59, of Cook Lyon Road, passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Mrs. Lyon was born May 8, 1948 in Surry County to Garvey and Hazel Irene Luffman Cook. Mrs. Lyon was retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation at the Elkin Bridge Maintenance Unit. She was an active member of Austin Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include: her husband, Ray Lyon of the home; two sons, Roger Mark Freeman and wife Kim, John Kevin Freeman and wife Susan all of Dobson; three stepsons, Stephen Lyon and wife Melinda of Burlington, Neil Lyon and wife Cathy of Traphill, Michael Lyon and wife Karen of Statesville; a sister, Glenda Chapman and husband James of Traphill; two grandchildren, Kasi Freeman and Sydney Freeman; ten step grandchildren, Joseph Johnson, Adam Lyon, Hannah Lyon, David Lyon, Daniel Lyon, Ashton Lyon, Grant Lyon, Morgan Lyon, Andrew Lyon and Kaitlyn Lyon; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 30, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Brian Wiles, Brother Mark Freeman and Rev. Marty Reece. Burial will follow at Austin Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin and at other times at the home of Ray Lyon, 764 Cook Lyon Road, Traphill, NC 28685.
