Elkin Mr. Roy Ralph Brown, age 83, of Roaring Gap Church Road, passed away Monday, November 15, 2004 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mr. Brown was born September 3, 1921 in Wilkes County to James Walter & Nora Blackburn Brown. Mr. Brown was a self-employed contractor and farmer. He was a member of Austin Baptist Church and was a past Scout Master of Boy Scouts of America Troop 656. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Bill Brown; a great grandson, Cade Bullins; a brother, Bryce Brown. Survivors include: his wife of 64 years, Blanche Cox Brown of the home; two sons, Toby Brown and wife Mandy of Jonesville, Guy Brown and wife Patsy of Thurmond; a daughter, Annette Sullivan and husband, Tony of State Road; a brother, John W. Brown of Elkin; a sister, Savannah B. Hollar of Courtney; a sister-in-law, Agnes Hayes Brown of Thurmond; six grandchildren and spouses, Billy & Amy Brown, Melissa & Steven Bullins, Luke & Dana Triplett, Travis & Cindy Brown, Amanda & Randall Smoot and Derek Brown; seven great grandchildren, Eli & Nathan Brown, Vess Bullins, Brandon Cox, Hannah & Gracie Brown and Olivia Passmore; four step grandchildren, Jon, Jay, Schel Sullivan and Allison Johnson. Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 18, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Austin Baptist Church by Rev. Earl Baker, Rev. Brian Wiles, Rev. John Attaway and Phil Simmons. Burial will follow at Austin Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Austin Baptist Church. Mr. Brown will lie instate 30 minutes prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Austin Baptist Church Building Fund, C/O Cindy Simmons, 193 Sylvan Road, Thurmond, NC 28683. Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin is serving the Brown family.
