Roaring River Mr. John "J.L." Levi McCann, age 87 of Greenhorn Road, passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at Woltz Hospice Home. Mr. McCann was born November 17, 1922 in Wilkes County to James & Maude Edna Burcham McCann. Mr. McCann was a veteran of the United States Navy and served during WWII. He was self-employed and was a member of Pleasant Home Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry McCann and R.V. McCann; a sister, Doris Lee Tharpe. Survivors include: his wife, Epsie Blackburn McCann of the Home; a son, Larry McCann and wife Sara of Elkin; a sister, Norma Lou Howard and husband Vernon of Winston-Salem; a brother, Tommy McCann and wife Nora of Roaring River; a sister, Clara Huffman and husband Ken of Ararat, a brother, Bill McCann and wife Bonnie of Roaring River; a sister, Betty Tharpe and husband Felix of Dobson, a sister-in-law, Hazel Tharpe and husband Harry Lee; two grandchildren, Laura McCann and fiancé Jim Judy of Raleigh, Michael McCann and wife Julie of Clemmons; two great grandchildren, Ethan McCann and Audrey McCann. Funeral Services will be held Monday, February 8, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Home Baptist Church by Rev. Nicholas Cheek and Rev. Kenneth Jordan. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Pleasant Home Building Fund, Willowbrook Rehab & Care Center Hickory Hall or to the Woltz Hospice Home.
