Elkin Walter Dudley Bass, age 74, of Haywood Lane, passed away Saturday March 11, 2006 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Mr. Bass was born in Slocomb, Alabama July 19, 1931 to Lyman and Annie Mae Simmons Bass. Mr. Bass retired from the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict and the Viet Nam War. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Mississippi and was a member of the American Legion. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers. Survivors include: His wife, Winifred Cook Bass of the home. Four sons and daughters-in-law; Frank Bass and his wife Patricia of Lumberton, Miss. Walter David Bass and his wife Louise of New Orleans, LA, John Bass and wife Betty, James Bass all of Lumberton, Miss. Four daughters and sons-in-law; Mary Wood and her husband Kermit of Elkin, Beatrice Johnson and husband, Brian of New Orleans, LA, Joyce King and husband Donald of Elkin, Susan Collins and husband David of Elkin. One Brother, Chester Bass of Defunak Springs, Fl. One sister, Bessie Niebauer of Ft. Walton Beach, Fl. 15 Grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday March 14, 2006 at 2:00 pm at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Mike Osborne. Burial will follow with full military rites provided by U.S. Army Ft. Bragg honor guard at Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday from 7-9 pm at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin.
