Leona Carter Davis

Leona Carter Davis, 100, of Elkin passed away Monday, October 26, 2009 at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center.. She was born December 2, 1908 in Wilkes County to John and Mattie Mae Carter. Mrs. Davis was a member of Grassy United Methodist Church and was retired from Chatham Manufacturing after 43 years of service. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her husband, Daffron Davis; a sisters & brother-in-law, Beulah and Homer Carter, and Nell Thompson; a brother & sister-in-law, Herman and Erma Carter; and a nephew, Charles Freeman. She is survived by two sisters, Anna Collins, and Estelle Freeman & her husband Harold; a brother-in-law, Richard Thompson; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 3:00 pm at Grassy Creek United Methodist Church with Rev. John Pillsbury and Rev. Jim Prichard officiating. Burial will follow in Hollywood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:30 pm prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grassy Creek United Methodist Church, 291 Klondike Road, State Road, NC 28676. The family would like to send a special thanks to the nurses and staff at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center.
