Mr. Fred Carter, age 78 of Pleasant Ridge Road, passed away Sunday, January 6, 2008 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mr. Carter was born December 25, 1929 in Wilkes County to Bramlet Worth and Omie Bauguess Carter. Mr. Carter was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and was a member of the Church Building Committee. Mr. Carter was a Veteran of The US Army and was a retired vocational instructor where he taught at Rowan-Cabarrus Community Colleges. Our Father God blessed us with an earthly father who lived a Christian life by loving one another and always placing God as number one in our home. He loved riding his Goldwing, taking motorcycles trips across the country and most important spending time with family and friends. No grandfather ever loved his grandchildren as much as Papaw. We will miss you, will always love you and never forget you. Survivors include; his wife Ethelene Cothren Carter of the home; a daughter, Karen Caffey and her husband David of Clemmons; one son, Chris Carter of Hendersonville; a daughter, Kathy Reece and her husband Donald of Boonville; six grandchildren, Lindsay Caffey, Kym Caffey Matthew Caffey, Lauren Carter, Kristen Carter and Kacie Reece. One brother, Alex Carter and his wife Raydell of State Road; and one sister Judy Williams and her husband Huw of Winston Salem; two brothers-in-law, Claytus Cothren and his wife Joyce, and Fred Cothren and his wife Elizabeth; one sister-in-law Betty Jo Cothren. Funeral services for Mr. Carter will be held at 3pm Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Dan Merritt and Rev. Vernon Ball. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6-8pm at Hodges Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family ask that memorials be made to Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 1997 Pleasant Ridge Rd. State Road, NC. 28676. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Thomas Shelburne for his compassionate care to our father during this brief period of illness. His wisdom and actions comforted not only him but we the family.
