Thurmond Mrs. Laura Marie Thompson McCann, age 85, of Haystack Road, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2006 at Willowbrook Healthcare. Mrs. McCann was born September 15, 1920 in Arlington, W.Va. to Elihu P. & Viola Cook Thompson. Mrs. McCann was retired from Lucia and was a member of White Rock United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Avery McCann; a son, Onifer McCann; five brothers, three sisters. Survivors include: two sons, Jerry McCann and wife Pat of State Road, Tommy McCann and wife Nellie of Mocksville; four sisters, Mable Wilmoth, Julia McCann, Betty Walker, Hettie Lambert; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren. Funeral service will be held Sunday, January 15, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. at White Rock United Methodist Church by Rev. James Reams and Rev. Jim Darnell. Burial will follow at Union Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. McCann will lie instate 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to White Rock United Methodist Church Cemetery or to Union Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
