Ronda Mr. Walter Fred Pepper, age 57, of South Lomax Road, passed away Friday, September 2, 2005 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. Mr. Pepper was born March 8, 1948, son of Henry F. and Nell Key Pepper. Fred graduated from Appalachian State University and after graduation he took a job with the Department of Correction in Watauga County. After 13 years with the Department of Social Services, he had to retire because of kidney failure. In 1987 he had a kidney transplant which lasted until his death. On May 23 Fred was told he had terminal cancer. He fought a tough battle which took his life. Fred belonged to Pleasant Home Baptist Church where he was Superintendent of Sunday School for 2 years. He was a member of the choir and sang solos that were beautiful and he felt them in his heart. He was an inspiration to all that knew him and loved by many. He will always remain in our hearts. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Chip and Gwyn Pepper. Surviving is his wife of 28 years, Dorothy Pepper of the home; his mother, Nell Key Pepper of Ronda; three step children, Loretta Caudle, Tim Hicks and Chris Hicks; five step grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 4, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Home Baptist Church by Rev. Kenneth Jordan and Rev. Todd Byrd. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Pepper will lie instate 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin.
