Ira Ray Mccann

August 12, 1924 — June 8, 2008

Elkin Mr. Ira Ray McCann, age 83, of Grassy Fork Road, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2008 at Willowbrook Healthcare. Mr. McCann was born August 12, 1924 in Wilkes County to Bob & Alice Cockerham McCann. Mr. McCann retired from farming and was a member of Shoaly Branch Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Alma Campbell. Survivors include: his wife, Dixie Blanche McCann of the home; a son, Jimmy McCann and wife Tabitha; a daughter, Nancy Lefler and husband Jeff all of Elkin; two sisters, Hazel Walker of Elkin, Francis Walker of Eden; three grandchildren, Joshua James Yarboro, Autumn Rae McCann and Dillon Ray McCann; several nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Shoaly Branch Baptist Church by Rev. Jerry Wilmoth and Rev. Kenny Wood. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. McCann will lie instate thirty minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made in honor of Blanche to the Alzheimer's Association, Western Carolina Chapter, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215-3220.
