Elkin Mrs. Ruby Chappell Reece, age 86, of Johnson Ridge Road, passed away Monday, February 13, 2006 at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center. Mrs. Reece was born November 25, 1919 in Surry County to Eugene Custer & Grace Goins Chappell. Mrs. Reece was a homemaker and was a member of Roaring Gap Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Rev. James Reece, a daughter, Shelby White; a son, Donald Reece; a brother, Thomas Chappell. Survivors include: a son, Larry Reece and wife Cathy of Low Gap; a daughter, Wilma Smith and husband David of Elkin; a brother, James Chappell and wife Imagene of Elkin; a sister, Ruth Norman of Elkin; a sister-in-law, Eva Chappell of Greensboro; a son-in-law, Chester White and wife Satch of Lewisville; fourteen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 16, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Roaring Gap Baptist Church by Rev. Kenny Wood. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Reece will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Hugh Chatham Nursing Center for all of their love and care given to Mrs. Reece during her time there.
