Edith Brooks Maines

Mrs. Edith Brooks Maines, 96 of State Road, passed away Friday, May 21, 2010 at her home. She was born April 20, 1914 in Alleghany County to Rev. Mack T. and Effie Billings Brooks. Mrs. Maines became a member of Mtn. View Baptist Church at an early age. In recent years, she attended Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and was a member of the Chatham Fellowship Club. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Maines was preceded in death by her husband Glenn H. Maines; a sister Fern Brooks; and two brothers Larry Brooks and Paul Brooks. She is survived by two sons Roger Maines & wife Marian of State Road and Jerry Maines & wife Pat of Jonesville; two daughters Phyllis Carter of State Road and Donna Gentry of Elkin; a brother Don Brooks & wife Jackie of Ennice; two sisters Ethel Chappell of Ennice and Hazel Edwards & husband Carl of Glade Valley; Fourteen grandchildren; Twenty one great grandchildren; and Nine great-great grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted Sunday, May 23, 2010 at 2:00 pm at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with Rev. John Attaway and Rev. Mickey Brooks officiating. A graveside service will follow at 4:00 pm in Mtn. View Baptist Church Cemetery in Glade Valley. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Elkin Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Building Fund, 109 Mount Pleasant Church Road, State Road, NC 28676 or Mountain Valley Hospice, 688 N. Bridge Street, Elkin, NC 28621.
