Elkin Mrs. Thelma Nixon Chatman, age 94, of Little Arcadia Drive, passed away Saturday, December 10, 2005 at Elkin Healthcare. Mrs. Chatman was born April 14, 1911 in Rockingham County to Wesley Thomas and Lillie Mae Hall Nixon. Mrs. Chatman was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and was retired from Chatham Manufacturing. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Frank Chatman, Sr.; a son, Charlie Frank Chatman, Jr.; a daughter-in-law, Ernestine Chatman. Survivors include: a son, James Chatman of Elkin; a daughter, Helen Burchette and husband Ray of Thurmond; three grandchildren, Tammy Holcomb and husband John, Jamie Carter and husbnad Jesse; Andy Chatman and wife Sandra; four great grandchildren, Cassie Carter, Krystal Carter, Brianna Chatman, Alex Chatman. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Gary Byrd and Rev. Don Ball. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church or to the Hospice of Surry/Wilkes Counties.
