Traphill After a long illness, William Curtis Norman, best known as Skeet, passed away Saturday, August 28, 2004, peacefully at his home on Mtn. Valley Drive in Traphill. He was surrounded by his family, friends and beloved dog, Doozy. Mr. Norman was born February 9, 1923 in Yadkin County to Rufus Henry & Bessie Lee Vestal Norman. Mr. Norman formerly owned and ran Skeet Hill in Jonesville, where he and his wife enjoyed their horses and holding horse shows. After spending 40 years in the Blending Department of Chatham Manufacturing Company, he returned to his lifelong love of farming in the Traphill Community. If not in his garden, you would often find him watching his favorite western or NASCAR race. Mr. Norman was known for his sense of humor, tall tales and infectious laughter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Ray, Hick and Allen Norman; two sisters, Nell McGee and Blanche White. Survivors include: his wife, Evelyn Owens Norman of the home; special nephew, Ray Edward Norman of Elkin; two sisters, Zelma Schofield and husband Fred of Alexandria, Virginia, Ina Lee Williamson of Newton. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 31, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Stuart Roten. Burial will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. Flowers will be accepted or because of his love for animals, it was his wish that memorials be made to local humane societies of your choice. Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin is serving the Norman family.
