Mr. Braxter Lee Gentry, 76 of Elkin, passed away Friday, November 05, 2010 at Kindred Hospital. Mr. Gentry was born November 17, 1933 in Wilkes County to Newt Eli and Mary Tucker Gentry. He graduated from Traphill High School and Clevenger College. He also attended Appalachian Teacher's College. Mr. Gentry served in the United States Army and in 1964 he founded Piedmont Accounting Service in Elkin. He owned and operated his business until his recent illness in March of 2010. He loved the outdoors, gardening, chatting with clients, bird feeding, and long strolls. Mr. Gentry was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Bonnie Finney Gentry of the home; one daughter which he called "his one and only", Jill Gentry Calhoun and husband Donald of Jonesville; three sisters, Sadie Holloway of Austin, Virginia Sheets of Clemmons, and Wanda DeHart of Pfafftown; several nieces and nephews who range in age from one year to sixty years of age and live from Florida to Kennebunkport, Maine; and two cats, Stuart and Elu of the home. A memorial service will be conducted Sunday evening at 6:00 pm at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Doug Combs officiating. The family wishes to thank the staff at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin, the staff of Wilkes Regional Medical Center, Dr. Dwight Benn, Forsyth Rehab Center caregivers, the doctors at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, and the entire staff at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro for all the loving care that was given to Mr. Gentry during his illness.
