Kenneth Vaughan Royall

Elkin Mr. Kenneth Vaughan Royall, age 83, of West Highland Ave., passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2005 at the Veterans Hospital in Salisbury. Mr. Royall was born March 7, 1922 in Alleghany County to Millard Henderson & Minnie Jane Brown Royall. Mr. Royall was a veteran of the United States Navy and serving during World War II with the Naval Aviation Ordinance. He retired from Chatham Manufacturing as a machinist. As a young man, he helped support his family as a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps, serving in Washington State and Oregon. Mr. Royall was a member of the first class at Surry Community College to complete EMT training; he was also a charter member of the Elkin Rescue Squad and a member of Elkin Presbyterian Church. Kenneth was a former Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 651 and was an avid fisherman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie Lucile Buelin Royall; an infant son, Kenneth Vaughan Royall, Jr.; brothers, Edwin and Joe Royall; sisters, Hester Royall Southard and Joyce Royall Mathis. Survivors include: a son, Jesse Royall and wife Teresa of Boonville; three daughters, Kathy Royall Mounce and husband Earl of Elkin, Jayne Royall Pardue and husband Rick of State Road, Kim Royall Longworth and husband Doug of Elkin; two brothers, Boyce Royall and wife Betty of Winston-Salem, Charlie Royall and wife Pat of Mt. Pleasant, SC; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday July 29, 2005 at Elkin Presbyterian Church at 11:00 a.m. by Rev. Brian Rummage. Burial will follow at Elkin Valley Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors provided by the V.F.W. Mount Airy and Pilot Mountain Honor Guard Post 2019 & Post 9436. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Friday at Elkin Presbyterian Church. The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to Elkin Rescue Squad, Elkin, NC 28621, or the Boy Scouts of America Laurel District, c/o Kevin Cheek 2858 S. Center Church Road, Thurmond, NC 28683 or to Surry County Hospice 1326 North Main Street, Mt. Airy, NC 27030. Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin is serving the Royall family.
