Elkin Mrs. Opal Lawrence Transou, age 86, of Johnson Ridge Road passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2004 at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center. Mrs. Transou was born January 29, 1918 in Surry County to Thomas & Mary Pricillia Holcomb Settle. Mrs. Transou was a member of Elkin First Baptist Church and retired from Transou Day Care. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Bill Transou; a son, William Lawrence Transou; four brothers, Odell Lawrence, Hubert Lawrence, Orville Lawrence, and Ralph Lawrence; two sisters, Grace McCoin and Yvonne Lawrence. Survivors include: a brother, Robert Lawrence of Elkin; three sisters, Beulah Lawrence and Mildred Luffman both of Elkin, Betty Madacsi of Boonville; one granddaughter, Jane Hollinsworth; two great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 23, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Bill Johnson. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at Hodges Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Elkin First Baptist Church or to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin is serving the Transou family.
