Elkin Mrs. Wilsie Mae Carter Draughn was called today to be with her Savior and her husband, Gurney Draughn who preceded her in death in January 2000. She was born November 7, 1911 in Wilkes County to Dallas and Nancy Myrtle Gillam Carter. Wilsie was a teacher for 43 years in Wilkes County Schools. She loved to attend her church and taught Sunday school for many years. Her hobby was reading good books. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Emma Jean McMillan, four brothers, Alton Carter, George Carter, Talmadge Carter and Porter Carter; three half sisters, Jettie Transou, Hattie Johnson, and Erma Carter. Survivors include: her daughter, Dixie England and husband Gene of State Road; a brother, Edsel Ford Carter of Harmony; two grandchildren, Lisa Patneaude and husband Stephen of Rock Hill, SC, Trent Layell and wife Sandi of Lexington, NC; two great granddaughters, Caitlin Patneaude and Sarah Patneaude of Rock Hill, SC; two step great grandsons, Dylan Gammon, and Ian Gammon of Lexington, NC; several nieces and nephews. Also to the many kindnesses shown to her by friends and church members and Pastor John Attaway" Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 16, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. John Attaway and Daryl Carter. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin.
