Wade Whitaker

Elkin Mr. Wade Whitaker, age 71, of Edwards Ridge Road, Elkin, passed away Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at his residence. Mr. Whitaker was born July 13, 1935 in Surry County to Bill & Irma Niston Whitaker. Mr. Whitaker was of the Baptist faith and was a retired restaurant owner. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served in Korea. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis Whitaker. Survivors include: his wife, Paula Fowler Whitaker of the home; two sons, Clint Whitaker and wife Jenny of Mooresville, Brandon Whitaker and wife Kimberly of Elkin; a sister, Becky Sasser and husband Don of Port Aliss, N. Mexico; a brother-in-law, Roger Lyons and wife Betty Jo of Winston-Salem; sisters-in-law, Wanda Whitaker and Peggy Banks both of Mount Airy; two granddaughters, Kaitlyn Whitaker, Brittany Whitaker; step grandson, Chandler Holsclaw. Graveside services will be held Saturday, July 14, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Oakdale Cemetery in Mount Airy by Rev. Stuart Roten and Rev. Mark Freeman. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
