Mr. Clarence Anthony Brandenburg, age 87 of Elkin, passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at Wilkes Senior Village. Mr. Brandenburg was born October 18, 1923 in Hospers, Iowa to George and Jennie Riedmiller Brandenburg. Mr. Brandenburg was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, a member of St. Stephens Catholic Church, and the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Brandenburg was a veteran of the United States Navy and served during World War II. He retired as an accountant from Campbell Soup Company and later Pepperidge Farm after 38 years of service. Mr. Brandenburg was an avid golfer and bridge player. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Lawrence Brandenburg and two sisters, Gladys Vacek and Esther Peters. Survivors include his wife Darlene C. Brandenburg of the home; sons Michael Brandenburg and his wife Janene of Vienna, VA. and John Brandenburg and his wife Debbie of St. Louis; daughters Mary Lukes and her husband Rich of Elkin and Julie McDowell of Clemmons; and ten grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stephens Catholic Church in Elkin with Father John Hanic officiating. Interment will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens in State Road with full military honors provided by Surry County VFW post 2019. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. The family requests that memorials be made to St. Stephens Catholic Church, 101 Hawthorne Road, Elkin, NC 28621 or to Mountain Valley Hospice, 688 N. Bridge Street, Elkin, NC 28621.
