Doris Mae Higgins 78 lifetime Emida resident, died November 13, 2010 at Coeur d' Alene, ID following a 2 year battle with breast cancer. She was born June 8th 1932 to Charles D. and Edna Mae Griffith Williams at Emida, ID. As a young girl, she lived in Emida and St. Maries area before moving to Spokane Valley. She graduated from Central Valley High School with the class of 1950. On January 7, 1950, she married William Robert Bob Higgins in Spokane, WA. They remained in Spokane Valley for a short time , then moved back to Emida area where Bob worked with her uncle and other family members in the logging industry. They moved to the Silver Valley area for a short time and then returned home to Emida where they farmed and raised their family. In the early 1980's, they purchased a cross country truck and traveled all over the United States and Canada. They both retired in 1990. Doris was a homemaker most all of her life. She enjoyed gardening, whether it was growing beautiful flowers or a vegetable garden, and had an amazing way with love for animals. She was also an avid reader, and created numerous handmade patchwork quilts. Doris was a very quiet, gentle and kind soul, and had nothing negative to say about anyone. Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years in 2002. She is survived by her children, Wayne Higgins and Roy and Alyce Higgins all of Emida, Kathy and Richard Hills of St. Maries, and Bill and Diana Higgins of Grangeville. Also surviving are brother Robert Williams of Hayden, Sister Loretta Miller of Priest River, ID, 13 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by son Donald E. Higgins and brothers Dean , Donald and Roy Williams. Funeral Services will be on Thursday November 18, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. At the Emida Community Center, Emida, ID with Pastor Parker McNeill officiating. Interment will follow at the Emida Cemetery.
