Verna Kennedy Brooks

Bethania Mrs. Verna Kennedy Brooks, age 92, of Meredith Road, Bethania, passed away Thursday, November 11, 2004 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mrs. Brooks was born July 18, 1912 in Wilkes County to Hardin & Mary Holbrook Kennedy. Mrs. Brooks was a retired seamstress from Thalheimers. She was a member of Old Roaring River Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ivy Brooks; a daughter, Peggy Brooks Rumple; six brothers, Claude, Paul, Ruffin, Walter, Billy and Foy Kennedy. Survivors include: a daughter, Jean Roope and husband Dwight of Bethania; a sister, Betty Kennedy Ball and husband Ancel of Hays; a sister-in-law, Della Cochran of Elkin; a granddaughter, Carla al Mesri and husband Mansour of Kuwait; three great grandchildren, Mariam, Joseph and Jacob. Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 14, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Old Roaring River Baptist Church by Rev. Clint Branch. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Brooks will lie instate 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Old Roaring River Baptist Church Cemetery Fund. Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin is serving the Brooks Family
