Mrs. Ann Maguire Jones Hoffman, of Forest Hill Road, age 81, passed away Thursday, November 30, 2006 at her home. A native of Elkin, NC Ann was born August 11, 1925 to the late Samuel Oscar and Rebecca Bray Maguire. She attended Elkin City Schools and Appalachian State College. She was married to Walter E. Jones, Jr. and lived in Elkin until his death. Ann was a member of First Methodist Church and was employed by Northwestern/First Union Bank. IN 1984 she married Marvin D. "Red" Hoffman. They enjoyed years of golf and traveling together. Ann's family and friends appreciated her sense of humor, and her many thoughtful acts of kindness were enjoyed by family, friends and strangers. She enjoyed decades of bridge with her Elkin friends and knitting with her Wilkesboro friends. Her greatest joys were her children and grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Samuel Oscar Maguire, Jr. of Augusta, GA and her sister Mary Harris of Elkin, NC. Surviving is her husband, Marvin "Red" Hoffman of the home; a son, Walter Steven Jones and wife Lisa of Chapel Hill; a daughter, Patricia Jones Hooper and husband Ron of Greensboro; a brother, Hunter Maguire of Hillsboro, NC; a sister, Martha Redding of Greensboro; six grandchildren, Alex, Lindsey, Sam and Michael Jones, Heath Hooper and wife Carly, Clay Hooper and wife Shannon; two great grandchildren, Wylie and Ellie Hooper. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held Tuesday, December 5, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. with receiving to follow at Elkin First United Methodist Church conducted by Dr. Charles Baker.
