Elsie Mae Welborn

Elkin Elsie Mae Welborn, age 89, of Harris Ave passed away Saturday July 7, 2007 at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville. Mrs. Welborn was born January 20, 1918 in Wilkes County to John Dennis and Merkie Waddell Cockerham. Mrs. Welborn had been in declining health for the past two years. She loved her family and friends deeply. She took pride in her home and flowers and love to be outside working in her yard. Mrs. Welborn retired from Sunbeam and was of the Christian Faith. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Edward Welborn. A grandson, Henry Todd Stanley. Seven brothers, Arlie, Carl, Tyre, Reece, Denver, Cyrus, Dennis Cockerham. One sister, Ennis C. Nixon. Survivors include: A son and daughter in law, Johnny Burton Weborn and wife Phyllis of Statesville. A daughter, Willie Mae Stanley of Statesville. Six grandchildren, Tamera Camelle S. Neilson, Melissa Jill Frye, Matthew Edward Stanley, John Christopher Welborn, Brian Alan Welborn, Elizabeth Ann W. Patterson. Ten great grandchildren. A half brother, Jasper Cockerham of Winston Salem. A sister, Violet C. Smith of Elkin. A graveside service will be held Tuesday July 10, 2007 at 4:30 pm at Crestwood Memorial Gardens by Rev. Robert Flippo and Rev. Tom Nussbaum. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 3-4pm at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Gordon Hospice House 2347 Simington Road Statesville, NC 28625.
