Elkin, Ms. Beulah Florence Lawrence, age 96, of Johnson Ridge Road passed away Friday, July 15, 2005 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Ms. Lawrence was born on July 9, 1909 in Surry County to Thomas and Mary Holcomb Lawrence. Ms. Lawrence was retired from Chatham Manufacturing and was an active member of First Baptist Church of Elkin, which she dearly loved. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a daughter Shirley Maines, three sisters: Opal Transou, Grace McCoin, and Agnes Evon Lawrence, five brothers: Odell Lawrence, Roy Lawrence, Arvil Lawrence, Ralph Lawrence, and Hubert Lawrence. Survivors include: a brother, Bob Lawrence and wife Jean of Elkin, a son-in-law, Jerry Maines of Jonesville, two sisters: Betty Madasci of Boonville, and Mildred Luffman of Elkin, five grandchildren: Mike Maines, Jeriann Maines, Kelly Parks, Kim Macemore, and Jonathan Maines, Eight grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held, Sunday, July, 17, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Crestwood Memorial Gardens by Dr. Bill Johnson. The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Elkin, or to the donor's choice. The family would like to thank Hospice of Surry County, Hugh Chatham Nursing Center, especially the 4th hall nurses for their love and care.
