Ronda Mrs. Evelyn Vickers Brown, age 86 of Clingman Road, passed away Sunday, October 19, 2008 at Willowbrook Health Care. Mrs. Brown was born May 23, 1922 in Wilkes County to Curtis & Gracie Simpson Sparks. Mrs. Brown was a member of Brier Creek Baptist Church and was retired from Chatham after 40 years of service. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Hubert Vickers; a son, Tommy Vickers; a great granddaughter, Jessica Welborn; a brother, J.C. Sparks; two sisters, Betty Pearl Prevette and Marie Brown. Survivors include: her husband of 33 years Clyde Brown of the home; a son, Larry Vickers and wife Nell of Hamptonville; a daughter, Faye Byrd and husband Wallace of Elkin; four granddaughters; seven great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Brier Creek Baptist Church Cemetery by Rev. Alvin Johnson. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin.
