Hamptonville Mr. Bobby Alton "Al" Poplin, Jr., age 44, of US 21 Hwy., passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2006. Mr. Poplin was born January 20, 1962 in Surry County to Bobby Alton & Myrtle Hurt Poplin, Sr. Al was a member of Fall Creek Baptist Church and was employed at Surry Telephone Company. He was an avid outdoorsman and a skilled fly fisher and taught classes on tying flies. Survivors include his wife: Beverly Groce Poplin of the home; two sons, Landon Keaton Poplin, Caleb Andrew Poplin both of the home; his father and mother, Bobby & Myrtle Poplin of Ronda; his father and mother-in-law, Roger & Lib Groce of Hamptonville; brothers, William Wesley Poplin and wife Annette of Ronda, Christopher Keenan Poplin and wife De De of East Bend; a sister, Malynda Poplin Carter and husband Terry of Elkin; several nieces and nephews, brother and sister-in-law, Von & Donna Groce of Hamptonville. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 26, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Fall Creek Baptist Church by Rev. Don Hudson and Rev. Jimmy Pardue. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Poplin will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin.
