Mr. Johnsie Freeman Nelson, age 84 & his wife Mrs. Imogene Wilmoth Nelson, age 77, both of Traphill Union Road, passed away Thursday, December 14, 2006 at Carolina Medical Center. Mr. Nelson was born April 7, 1922 in Wilkes County to Mr. James & Susan Wagoner Nelson; Mrs. Nelson was born September 7, 1929 in Wilkes County to Q.H. & Bertha Higgins Wilmoth.
Mr. & Mrs. Nelson were retired from Vaughn Bassett and they were of the Pentecostal Holiness faith. In addition to their parents, Mr. Nelson was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Brooks Nelson; a son, Paul Curtis Nelson; several brothers and sisters; Mrs. Nelson was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Wilmoth; a sister, Ruby Hall.
Survivors include: Their children; James Nelson and wife Betty of Hays, Larry Nelson and wife Darlene of State Road, Edward Nelson and wife Frances of Elkin, Brenda Golden and husband Thomas of State Road, Linda Mahan and husband Frank of Hamptonville, Judy Caudill and husband Johnny of Walnut Cove, Allen Nelson and wife Nita of N. Wilkesboro, Carol Matthews and husband Ronnie of Elkin, Joyce Luffman and husband Joey of State Road, Tony Nelson and wife Starr of Elkin; twenty-nine grandchildren; eight step grandchildren; thirty-nine great grandchildren; three great grandchildren on the way; one great-great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews; a special friend Roland Caudill; Mr. Nelson is also survived by a sister, Nellie Reynolds of Wilkesboro; Mrs. Nelson is also survived by a brother, Linville Wilmoth of Jonesville; and a sister, Nina Spicer. The Nelson Family would like to say a special thank you to Mrs. Brenda Carter for all her kindness and hard work and dedication.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 18, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Jimmy Mahan, Rev. Michael Osborne, and Rev. Wesley Nelson. Rev. Keith Foster will officiate at the graveside. Burial will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin.
