Opal Blackburn Layell

July 14, 1924 — January 16, 2009

Mrs. Opal Blackburn Layell, age 84, of Presnell Road, passed away Friday January 16, 2009 at Randolph Health and Rehab Center. Mrs. Layell was born in Alleghany County July 14, 1924 to Charles Glenn and Bessie Hanks Blackburn. Mrs. Layell retired from Elkin First Baptist Church. Mrs. Layell was a member of Elkin First Baptist Church and was a member of WMU. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, A.M. Layell, Two sons, Charles Gary Layell and Ronald Jeffrey Layell, a sister, Pauline Bell. Survivors include; a daughter, Carolyn Euliss and huband Hutton of Hillsborough. A grandson, Trev Euliss and wife Kristen of Mebane. Four great grandchildren, Jordan, Beau, Annabelle and Bradley. A nephew, Steve Bell and wife Shirley of Jonesville. Funeral services will be held Sunday January 18, 2009 at 2:00 pm at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Bill Johnson. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 4-6pm at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to Hospice of Randolph County or to Elkin First Baptist Church. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff of Randolph Health and Rehab, to Dr. Betts and the Hospice of Randolph County for their love and care shown to Mrs. Layell during her illness.
