Winston-Salem Ms. Cooper Jane McBride, age 90, passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at the Oaks Nursing Home where she had resided for the past several years. She was born in Elkin on May 13, 1915 to Thomas M. & Sally Victoria Newman McBride. Cooper was a member of the Elkin Presbyterian Church and was active in the Women's Evening Church Circle. She retired from Chatham Manufacturing Company with 44 years of service. She was secretary of the Chatham Binding Room Club. After retiring, she completed an assistant nurse's course through Surry Community College and Guardian Care Nursing Home where she was a volunteer. She was a member of the Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital Auxillary. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Ethel McBride Chipman and Ina McBride and her brothers, Thomas McBride and Wilson McBride; also a special nephew, James T. Chipman of Winston-Salem and a special niece "Polly" Chipman Stuart; and a nephew Melvin McBride. Survivors are six nieces, Ruby Mitchell, Betty Church, Susan Church all of Elkin, Wilma Smith of Greensboro, Dot Harris and Mary Sue Sloop of Winston-Salem; three nephews, Ronnie McBride of Elkin, Junior McBride of Greensboro; Park McBride of Winston-Salem; several grand nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 11, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Jim Kinney. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
