Jonesville, Mrs. Barbara Bingham Holmstrup passed away Monday, October 25, 2010 at the age of 77. Mrs. Holmstrup was born April 3, 1933 in Woden, Iowa to Oliver and Cora Fischer Bingham. Her father was a farmer and her mother was a school teacher. The family moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico when Barbara was three years old because her father was diagnosed with TB. Mrs. Holmstrup graduated from Highland High School in New Mexico and worked as a secretary at Somelia Naval Base when she met Bob Timmis, and they were married in 1951. The couple had a very active life as a Navy family, working at the Pentagon, living in Hawaii, and being stationed in Portugal. Bob and Barbara had three children. When they returned to the US, they were stationed in Albuquerque, and in the late 1960's, they were transferred to Washington DC. At the age of 51, Bob passed away. Barbara was 47 years old with three children. Barbara later married Rev. Kenneth C. Holmstrup in Virginia. They took a church appointment in Grant, New Mexico where they lived until she became the caregiver of Kenneth after suffering a major stroke. She was now again a widow in 2003. Barbara moved to North Carolina to live out her days with her daughter, Susie. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Holmstrup was preceded in death by two husbands, Robert Timmis and Kenneth Holmstrup; a sister, Catherine Flint; two brothers, Wilber Bingham and Vernon Bingham; and a daughter, Debrah Ann Middlebrooks. She is survived by her daughter Susan Prigmore and husband John of Jonesville, NC; a son, Robert Timmis, Jr. and wife Carla of Albuquerque, NM; seven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted Thursday, November 4, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at French Mortuary Chapel with burial following in Sandia Memorial Gardens in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at French Mortuary. Local arrangements by Elkin Funeral Service.
