Emmaleen Carter Knott

February 18, 1924 — July 12, 2010

Mrs. Emmaleen Sloop Carter Knott, age 86, of Elkin passed away Monday, July 12, 2010 at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center. Mrs. Knott was born February 18, 1924 in Surry County to Walter Claude and Fannie Jane Isabelle Turner Sloop. Mrs. Knott was a member of Elkin Valley Baptist Church and Daybreak Christian Center; she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband Harry Gray Carter; five sisters, Estelle Sloop, Cecil Brock, Betsy Childress, Helen Sloop, and Claudette Sloop; two brothers, Bob Sloop and Frank Sloop; a daughter-in-Law Eva Carter; and two brothers-in-Law, Bill Temple and Jim Childress. Survivors include her husband Darrell Knott of the home; two sons Ronald Carter and his wife Rebecca, Claude Carter all of Elkin; two daughters, Deborah Holleman and her husband Michael of Hamptonville, Lynn Williams and her husband John of Thurmond; one brother Jack Sloop and his wife Dolly of Jonesville; three sisters, Carol Whittington of State Road, Gaye Temple of Cherryville, Rachel Brock and her husband Jim of Farmington; one brother-in-Law Bill Brock of Farmington; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. A Funeral service for Mrs. Knott will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at New Day Assembly of God conducted by Rev. Jeff Davis. Burial will follow in Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 -1:30 prior to the service. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to Hugh Chatham Nursing Center, 700 Johnson Ridge Road Elkin, NC, 28621 or Mountain Valley Hospice, 688 N. Bridge Street Elkin, NC 28621 The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center for their love and special care.
