Elkin Mr. Frank Curtis Clanton, of South Street, passed away January 9, 2008 at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center. Mr. Clanton was born October 6, 1916 in Iredell County to the Rev. D.C. & Palastine Pearson Clanton. Mr. Clanton served his country in the Army during World War II. He worked for Chatham Manufacturing Company for 46 years retiring in 1984. He became an avid gardener, and loved giving produce to his neighbors. Frank took up golf which he enjoyed very much. He looked forward to seeing his golf buddies and getting to the golf course every week. Mr. Clanton was an active member of Elkin First Baptist Church where he served as deacon, head usher and many other duties. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 5 sisters and 5 brothers. Survivors include: his wife Gladys Clanton of the home; a son, Jeff Clanton and wife Billie; three grandson triplets, Davis, Chase and Hunter Clanton all of Hickory; a daughter, Kim Clanton Dickinson of Newport News, Va.; a brother, Odell Clanton of Wilkesboro, a sister-in-law, Audrey Clanton of Hudson; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 12, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Bill Johnson. Burial will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Elkin First Baptist Church, 110 Gwyn Ave., Elkin, NC 28621.
