Eva Agnes Moody Lawrence, 81, passed away early Monday morning, January 4, 2010, at her home in State Road surrounded by her family. Mrs. Lawrence was born December 18, 1928, to J.C. and Verma Moody. Eva lived a quiet and simple life—but she enjoyed laughter and family. She was known for speaking her mind and her sense of humor. She will be missed for her pound cakes, delivering egg custard pies, and her beautiful blue eyes. Eva was a faithful member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church which she attended regularly until her health prevented it. She was especially fond of her Sunday school class and the Seniors group at church. She retired from Chatham Manufacturing Co. with more than 25 years of service. She was a proud member of Mountain Park High School class of 1945 and enjoyed their yearly reunions. Mrs. Lawrence was especially fond of her Saturday night "girl friends" and their weekly outings— Peggy Simmons, Vennie Stanley, Ailene Sparks, Louise Sale, and Olene Harris. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Lawrence was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Lee Lawrence. She was also preceded in death by four brothers and their wives—Robert Bea, Homer Evelyn, John Grace, and Raymond Grace Moody, and her beloved sister Dorothy Stonestreet. Also predeceasing her were three nephews: Jerry Moody, Ronny Moody, and Clarence Moody, and a special friend Winnie Ross. Mrs. Lawrence is survived by two sons, Philip Judy Lawrence of State Road and Danny Lawrence of Winston-Salem, NC; three grandchildren, Melanie Steven Edelman of Huntersville, NC; Courtney A.J. Driver of Winston-Salem, and Greg Lawrence of Winston-Salem, and three great-grandsons, Colin and Luke Edelman and Ethan Driver; a special friend Harry Books of Winston-Salem.; a brother-in-law Percy Stonestreet and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Eva loved her Moody family and her many brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews in Lee's family. She had a special fondness for her mother-in-law—Bertha Lawrence. A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at 2:00 pm at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. Dan Merritt officiating. Burial will follow in Crestwood Memorial Gardens in State Road. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, January 5, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Elkin Funeral Service, 560 Hwy 268 West, Elkin, NC. The family would like to say a special thank-you to Dr. Stephen Walker and his staff at Elkin Pediatric & Adult Medicine in Elkin for their special attention and many kindnesses to Eva. The family is also grateful for the many services provided them by Mountain Valley Hospice. The family will accept flowers, but prefer that memorials be made in Eva' s memory to Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, 1997 Pleasant Ridge Road, State Road, NC 28676 or Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care, 688 N. Bridge Street, Elkin, NC 28621.
