Elkin Mrs. Mary Maguire Harris, age 93 of Victoria Street, Elkin, passed away Friday, July 28, 2006 at Autumn Care of Drexel. Mrs. Harris was born February 16, 1913 in Surry County to Samuel Oscar & Rebecca Emaline Bray Maguire. Mrs. Harris was a school teacher and taught for 38 years at Elkin City and Jonesville City Schools. She was an active member of Elkin First Baptist Church, Woman's Club and Daughters of American Revolution. She was recognized for service to her community by Beta Sigma Phi in 1989. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband, Fred Martin Harris Survivors include: a daughter, Julia Harris Mode and husband Richard of Morganton; two grandchildren, William Richard Mode and wife Tara and their daughter Gracie Maguire Mode of Morganton, Kathleen Mode McKeithan and husband Paul and their daughter Alison Gwyn McKeithan of Raleigh; a brother, Hunter Maguire of Hillsborough; two sisters, Martha Redding of Greensboro and Ann Hoffman of N. Wilkesboro; two sisters-in-law, Fanny Sue Robinson of Elkin and Harriet Maguire of Augusta, Ga. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 5, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. at Elkin First Baptist Church by Dr. Bill Johnson. Burial will follow at Hollywood Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at the Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Elkin Public Library 111 N.
