Louise Warren Billings, a devoted wife and mother, passed away Wednesday, December 10, 2009 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Mrs. Billings was born January 16, 1928 in Wilkes County to Henry Harrison & Nannie Shaver Warren. She was a member of Roaring Gap Baptist Church and was retired from Chatham Manufacturing. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Billings was preceded in death by her daughter, Gilda Lynn Billings; three sisters, Hazel Warren Royall, Helen Warren Poteat, and Opal Warren Wall. She is survived by her husband, William Garvey Billings; her son, James Harrison Poteat & wife Angela of N. Wilkesboro; two daughters June Ellen Poteat of Thurmond and Robin Poteat Popiolkowski and husband Alan of California; a grand daughter, Emma Popiolkowski of California; a sister, Velda Transou of Traphill; two brothers, Henry Warren Jr. and wife Francis of Winston Salem, Dr. Holland Warren and wife Nancy of Lynchburg, VA; and aunt, Velvia Robbins of Greensboro; and uncle, Paul Shaver of Greensboro; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted Monday, December 14, 2009 at 2:00 pm at Roaring Gap Baptist Church with Rev. Ronnie McMillian and Rev. Russ Nixon. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Elkin Funeral Service.
