Elkin Mrs. Margaret E. Day Porter, age 82, of Johnson Ridge Road, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2005 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Porter was born October 27, 1922 in Surry County to Herman & Rema Swaim Day. Mrs. Porter was retired from Chatham Manufacturing and was a member of East Elkin Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis A. Porter, Sr.; a son, Lewis A. "Pat" Porter, Jr.; two brothers, Howard Day and Bill Day. Survivors include: two sons, Earl Porter and wife Carole of Advance, Herman Porter and wife Michelle of Charleston, SC; a daughter-in-law, Carol Porter of Winston-Salem; a grandson, Chris Porter and wife Sandra of Mocksville; two sisters, Susie Miller of Boone, Mary Graham of Kernersville; A graveside service will be held Friday, October 28, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Crestwood Memorial Gardens by Rev. Rex Walker. The family will receive friends Friday from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin is serving the Porter family.
