State Road Mr. Opie W. White, age 88, of Adams Ridge Road, passed away Saturday, December 10, 2005 at Elkin Healthcare. Mr. White was born March 4, 1917 in Surry County to Ike & Fanny Snow White. Mr. White was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and was retired from Chatham Manufacturing after 42 years of service. He was a veteran of the US Army and served during WWII. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a wife, Ila Marshall White and three brothers and three sisters. Survivors include: three sons, Donnie White and wife Linda of Germanton, Gary White of Carolina Beach, Opie White, Jr. and wife Carolyn of Ft. Worth, Texas; a daughter, Gail Sparks and husband David of State Road; a sister, Ila Dudley; four grandchildren, Craig White, Sandy White, Melissa Neidhart and husband Craig, Stephanie Carrell and husband Patrick; one step grandson, Jeffery Scott Tuttle; one great grandchild, Kaycee Neidhart. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 14, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. John Attaway. Burial will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Building Fund or to the Donor's Choice. The family would like to say a special thank you to Elkin Healthcare and Hospice of Surry/Wilkes Counties for their tender loving care of Mr. White and the courtesies that was extended to them.
