Elkin Mrs. Mattie Eva Carter, age 70, of W. Robin Road, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2007 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mrs. Carter was born October 26, 1936 in Wilkes County to John A. & Zenobia Eller Marley. Mrs. Carter was a homemaker and a member of New Day Assembly of God where she was the director of the nursery. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis Marley. Survivors include: her husband, Claude Carter of the home; a son, Robert "Kerry" Church and wife Sandra of Ferguson; three sisters, Louise Church of Greensboro, Betty Rae Wolf of Ferguson and Doris Fairchild of North Wilkesboro; a grandson, Colby Church. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at New Day Assembly of God by Rev. Jeff Davis and Rev. Jimmy Cockerham. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Carter will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to New Day Assembly of God, Building Fund, Hamptonville, NC 27020.
